Dear Committee Clerk,
COMMITTEE ENQUIRY INTO INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIVITY THROUGH WELSH PORTS AND AIRPORTS
I refer to the Committee’s enquiry and apologise on behalf of the South West Wales Integrated Transport Consortium (SWWITCH), for failing to meet the response deadline of 29th February 2012. However, in the context of this short and strategic response, I hope you will still consider SWWITCH views alongside other submissions.
SWWITCH has three small airports in Swansea, Pembrey and Withybush, none of which currently provides scheduled services. However, each has potential to be developed to cater for niche markets for business or leisure purposes. SWWITCH has a number of key ports which play a strategic role in terms of freight movements and the energy sector. Individual SWWITCH Councils will respond with specific comments on their ports.
However, SWWITCH is in agreement with the comprehensive response submitted by the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA), which covers all the key points which the Committee should consider. SWWITCH would like to endorse the WLGA response.
Yours sincerely
Sue Miles – SWWITCH Co-ordinator
